APRIL – MAY 2013

Dear Members,

Wishing you a healthy Springtime. At the Club, our occupancy is back into the 85-90% range beginning with the months of April and continuing through May and June.

The Board of Directors will meet throughout the week #16 with the Annual ABCCA Members Meeting taking place in the Member’s Lounge on April 23rd. Results of voting and any other information from the Board will be posted shortly on Club’s website.

OFFICIAL ARUBA HOLIDAYS: Housekeeping service will be provided same as our Sunday Housekeeping service on May 1st and May 9th. On April 30th we will have regular Housekeeping service. Most businesses on the Island will be closed.

• April 30th, Queen’s Birthday -- Aruba holds a protocol ceremony on this official holiday in honor of Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands followed by much enjoyable activities around the island. People engage in kite contests, sporting events and other fun activities at various community centers. Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands will abdicate, and will hand the crown to her son, Prince Willem-Alexander, on April 30th.
• May lst – Labor Day
• May 9th – Ascension Thursday

HOUSEKEEPING:
New Pillows were purchased, delivered and placed in all units.
New Sofa beds for one-bedroom Deluxe and Royal Superb units to be selected and purchased.
No storage is available at our Resort. If you are leaving any item(s) behind please leave it with a local storage company. For more information on the latter please contact the Front Desk.

GROUNDS AND LANDSCAPING:
New white landscaping pebbles have been delivered and placed in the gardens.
New straight back lounge chairs (40) for the pool deck and beach ordered.
The season of annual high winds is currently being felt, and as a result our chickee roofs are incurring damages. Repairs will be taking place as soon as the winds calm and allow for repairs to be accomplished.

MAINTENANCE PROJECTS:
Repainting of fascia (face) boards almost completed.
Replacement of Smoke Detectors is in progress – all units.
Third new chiller delivered and installed mid-April.

RESALES/ACCOUNTING:
Settlement checks are issued to seller only after the buyers final payment has been received and cleared by the Bank. Our Bank here in Aruba places an automatic six week “hold” on funds received via check allowing ample time to clear through the International banking system. After that six week period, the accounting department issues the request for check for transmittal to the seller. By the same token, Share Certificates are issued after the same six week period after. Your understanding and patience with this practice is appreciated.

LENDING LIBRARY:
The Library has moved back to the Members Lounge for your convenience.

San Nicolas Watertoren and Community Museum officially opened:

San Nicolas, the city that dominates Aruba's eastern end, welcomed two new sights to enhance a tourist's day trip to "Sunrise City." During the month of March the renovated Watertoren (Water Tower) was unveiled, a landmark building from the 1930's;
And, the San Nicolas Community Museum opened its doors. The government has arranged to use various items from this extensive collection in presenting a charming picture of past island society. It will be accented with old photos and artifacts of the San Nicolas community, with regularly changing exhibits dedicated to outstanding community members and personalities, such as singer and composer Lord Cobashi, a San Nicolas and Carnival icon, which is currently on display.

Museum hours are daily, Tuesday through Sunday. Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, the exhibit is open to the public from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM. On Thursdays it is open only the afternoon, from 2:00 until 9:00 PM, so visitors to the weekly Carubbian Festival may visit. Sundays it is open from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM. During this first month, entrance is free; after mid-April the fee will be $2. It is closed on Monday.
Located just off the main street of San Nicolas, directly behind the CMB Bank across from the main bus terminal, The San Nicolas Community Museum can provide some "extra spice" to a visit to Baby Beach and its environs.

I look forward to meeting you at the regular Tuesday Members Meeting where most recent info will be shared and questions from the floor addressed.

Kindest regards,

Farida Mansur
General Manager
