Dear Members,
Welcome to the Aruba Beach Club’s 35th Anniversary Year – And to those of you who will be vacationing with us this year, we hope you will enjoy the Celebrations.

Here on the Island, for the most part the rains have ended, delighting our guests with bright sunshiny days and cool breezes, whether lounging on the beach, catching up with your extended Aruba family and friends, shopping, sightseeing, or reading a new book, ABC is the place to be “home away from home”.

The Beach is awesome – the gardens are beautiful. Beach chickees placed and in good repair, 89 in total. An additional seven have been placed on the pool deck. We ask only that you share amongst yourselves as much as possible so that everyone gets their chances to relax and enjoy the peaceful sounds of the ocean waves. We do have an additional 50 new lounges and 25 straight chairs so there are enough for all guests.

Our New Board of Directors just completed a full week of Board Meetings Jan 15-20. During that week your Board, together with the Aruba Timeshare Association, expressed concerns seeking cooperation from the Government of Aruba in helping to alleviate the high costs of operations. Columns by the Chairman/Tony Parrino, Treasurer/René Levy Maduro, and Project Manager/Kevin Foley will be contained in the Newsletter scheduled for mailing mid-February. The Newsletter will be posted on Club’s website for
your convenience.

Reminders to all members, when making your air reservations, please access the Aruba Beach Club Timeshare Calendar which you also find on Club’s website to avoid booking your air on wrong dates. I invite you to visit http://www.aruba.com, Aruba’s official website, where you will find the most current airline information and a wealth of other island information.

The Members Notification & Confirmation Procedure for Private Rental/Guests of Room has been placed on Club’s website under the title “Important Notice”. Adherence to this procedure is being strictly enforced in the interest of improving efficiency in our Reservations and Front Office operations.

Setar NV, our local provider of phone services, has made substantial investments and upgrades over the past year improving phone and internet communications at the Resort and island-wide. Wi-Fi cards are available for purchase at our Front Desk, on-line, as well as the Setar Tele Shops for use with your own laptop at a daily charge of $10.00, or $35.00 weekly. Four weeks access is $70.00 only available on-line. ABC no longer has an internet café located on property.

The Maintenance Department is in progress with two projects additional to their regular maintenance of the building. The first is painting of the East and West Wing hallways with lighter colors to give a brighter effect. The second and longer term project is the replacement of 2nd floor balcony floors. Maintenance has been given approval for the first five which are West Wing Superiors scheduled as occupancy permits. Renovation of ground floor patios of the four East Wing Ocean Front units was imperative and completed in the last months of 2011.

The Air-Conditioning System Renovations Project is No. 1 Priority of the Maintenance Department together with the Board of Directors and in particular our Project Director Mr. Kevin Foley. All together, we are confident that this major project is on track and is moving in good direction. Please read Kevin Foley’s column in the Newsletter for further update on this Project.

ABC welcomes our new Activities Coordinator, Susan Gibson. Check out Susan’s new Activities schedule including arts and crafts for adults and teens which you will receive on check-in. Susan looks forward to meeting you during your next ABC vacation and signing you up for the activities of your choice.

And for those of you who have been visiting our Island for ten consecutive years or more, and have not yet been honored by the Aruba Tourist Authority under its Distinguished Visitor Program, please visit Susan in the Activities Center on Monday mornings so that she will be able to coordinate your recognition with ATA at a convenient time during your vacation week.

In our area, after an extensive renovation, the Alhambra Casino Project is open for your evening’s entertainment – wishing you “good luck” and wait to hear your happy tales!

Upon your next vacation on our friendly Island, you will begin to see some of the enhancements of the Tourism Product Aruba that are currently in progress. On your way from the airport, just after you pass through the traffic circle towards town, you will see the beginnings of the Linear Park taking shape.

In the downtown shopping district, preparations are well underway for a Tram that will be battery powered and designed especially for Aruba. The underground work in the portion of Caya Betico Croes known as the Main Street will be finalized in the coming weeks. The project will include construction of eight tram stops and the gazebos, landscaping, and more. The entire project is scheduled for completion in the next six to seven months and will provide a unique Oranjestad city center experience to cruise ship passengers.

It is to serve as an attraction and help revive Main Street as a shopping and entertainment “destination” for tourists as well as locals.

Europa House and TNO Building named Dr. Edward Cheung Center – named after the Aruba-born scientist working for NASA, who created a device with his knowledge, named it Aruba, and sent it into space. Aruba’s Prime Minister Eman hopes that Dr. Cheung’s name on the building will serve as an inspiration for everything that Aruba wants to achieve for the third pillar of the Island’s economy.

We here at the Aruba Beach Cub take some pride in the naming of this building as Dr. Cheung’s family are also long-time loyal ABC Members.
It is my pleasure updating you with some of the latest developments at the ABC and on the Island.

I look forward to meeting you at the regular Tuesday Manager’s Meeting where most recent info will be shared and questions from the floor addressed.

To our January and February guests, we hope you enjoy Aruba’s 58th Carnival Celebrations – Aruba’s biggest party of the year.

Farida Mansur
General Manager
