April 30th, 2012

Dear Members,
Occupancy during April declined somewhat, ranging 85-90%. Arriving Members and Guests are enjoying the General Manager’s Saturday “Welcome” Program, and also during week 16 April 21-28, the ARUBA BEACH CLUB 35th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION was held by the Board together with Management as well as Members and Guests present. Photos of the event will be featured in the next edition of the ABC Newsletter.

ABCCA 2012 ANNUAL GENERAL MEMBERS MEETING was held on the postponed date of April 24th, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the Ray Maduro Members Lounge with all five Board Members Chairman Anthony Parrino, Kevin Foley, René Levy Maduro, Ronald Parolisi and Richard Titone present.

OFFICIAL HOLIDAYS:
Please note the following official holidays end of April and May 2012, which will be Aruba’s last Holidays until December:
April 30th – Queens’s Birthday
May lst – Labor Day
May 17th – Ascension Thursday

SECURITY AND SAFETY: We are again finding items stashed by guests in the ceilings of rooms which creating possible HAZARD. DO NOT STORE PERSONAL ITEMS OF ANY KIND IN THE CEILING OF YOUR UNIT. Any items found will be confiscated and destroyed. Should you have any personal items that you need to store from one visit till your next, off premises storage company is available. Please ask at the Front Desk for details.

RESERVATIONS REMINDERS: #1 – In connection with the leap year, we again remind our Members to make sure that they are booked for the right week (s) before traveling to Aruba and the ABC. Please kindly recheck your calendar for the right dates of your interval week at our Resort to avoid disappointment and additional costs.
#2 – Please adhere to the Members Notification & Confirmation Procedure for Private Rental/Guests of Room published on Club’s website. Rental Program and Member-Guest Authorization forms are available on the Rentals and Exchanges page of Club’s website.

SPACEBANK DEPOSITS WITH EXCHANGE COMPANIES: Please be reminded, Members are required to PRE-PAY the Club Dues/Maintenance Fees on the corresponding wk/unit/year prior to contacting the Exchange Company with a spacebank deposit. Your deposit will be returned if prepayment has not been received/recorded on your account by ABC. Check your Club Dues Statement “begins” date that indicates the wk/unit/yr billed.

MAINTENANCE: Please take good note of The Board of Director’s New Policy regarding extensive room maintenance and repairs: “Any room that is still vacant on a Tuesday morning of each week, whether it is inthe Rental Program or not, will be subject to and made available for any major room maintenance and repair work”. The Board of Directors realizes that from time to time this Policy may cause some confusion and perhaps some extra work for the Front Desk and Club’s Rental office, should the Club need to relocate
someone. However, it is the only reasonable solution in order for Maintenance to get the necessary repairs and maintenance done in our rooms.

ACTIVITIES: In addition to our own regularly weekly activities, there are some Island Activities, we also extend an invitation to our guests, such as the Bon Bini Festival (Tuesday in Oranjestadat the Willem III Tower), and the CARUBA Festival (Thursdays in San Nicolas by the main bus station). Check with our Activities Coordinator, Susan for times and other information.
HRH Princess Laurentien of The Netherlands inaugurates new Bon Bini Festival at Fort Zoutman. Staff members of the Aruba Historical Museum were pleased to welcome HRH Princess Laurentien of The Netherlands, wife of HRM Queen Beatrix’s youngest son, HRH Prince Contantijn, to Fort Zoutman on Tuesday evening, April 3, for the inauguration of a revived and revamped Bon Bini Festival and unveiling of an attractive plaque, in Dutch, marking the occasion. The Bon Bini Festival is a charming introduction to island culture and traditions in music and dance, from folkloric to carnival, staged at Fort Zoutman every Tuesday evening beginning at 6:00 PM. HRH Princess Laurentien has been a vigorous advocate of literacy programs and laws in Holland; she was visiting Aruba for the launch of the Papiamento version of the children’s book she authored, “Mr. Finney and the Other Side of the Water,” which was very much inspired by Aruba’s concern about climate change and effects it will have on island nations. Mr. Finny is a dolphin/human hybrid who is the main character of her books. His search for answers to hard questions about the environment and the damage it has been done are charmingly woven into her children’s tales, simultaneously encouraging reading and a concern for the eco-system.

Soul Beach Music Festival
The 2012 Soul Beach Music Festival will fly into Aruba for the most electrifying music festival event of the year. The 2012 Soul Beach Music Festival kicks-off Memorial Day Weekend, in Aruba's sun-kissed paradise, with five-days of power-packed events. Join Soul Music Lovers from around the world and take part in amped-up nightclubs, sizzling beach parties, and music concerts.

Aruba Food & Wine Festival – June 1-4, 2012
Annual food and wine tasting event features a pastry extravaganza with famous invited chefs showcasing their talents. This three-day culinary event concludes with a final extravaganza in a tribute to a famous band or artist.
Aruba Film Festival set for June 22-28, movie celebrities still to be announced
Having attracted the likes of Richard Gere, Guillermo Arriaga, Patricia Clarkson, Griffin Dunne, Jonathan Demme and Kim Cattrall over the past two years' events, expectations are high for the 2012 Aruba International Film Festival.

Always a pleasure updating you with some of the latest developments at the ABC and on our Island. I look forward to meeting you at the regular Tuesday Manager’s Meeting where most recent info will be shared and questions from the floor addressed.

Farida Mansur
General Manager
